About

My life has been about the arts for as long as I remember. I have ventured into almost all the the fields including vocals, acting, writing and, of course, fine art. I began drawing and painting when I was very young and not just in coloring books or just for fun. I would look at pictures and very seriously try to recreate exactly what I saw. Naturally, at that age my creations never did resemble the subject exactly, but it turned out that this was not some sweet childhood phase. I continued drawing, painting and even ventured into sculpture (first with play-dough and then sculpty). As my hand-eye coordination improved so did my art and I got more and more serious. I entered some pieces into the local county fair and won some ribbons, some first place, and became further encouraged. I was accepted into an arts high school for fine art, but took another route and pursued the art form of vocals with a focus on opera and musical theater. At the time it was what I wanted to concentrate on, but I did not give up fine art. In college I began photography and later received my first formal training in the field of fine art. During my senior year I declared art as a second minor and began to look at it seriously as a possible part of my freelance career.

My subjects have always been mostly those found in nature which is not surprising since I am a naturalist. I love to look at the tiny details of nature and recreate exactly what I see with my media. My goal is to express the beauty of nature in its natural state because, at this rate, I’m not sure how much longer it will be there. Fine art and photography makes me see things and know things in nature that a casual glancer would not see. It makes me focus on beauty that is over looked and know what others have not bothered to study. This ability to see has made me a better artist and naturalist. The two fields go hand and hand.
